Originally founded in 1980 by Ruedi Beglinger, who missed his native Swiss Alps whilst visiting Canada, his love for stunning mountain ranges saw him remaining in British Columbia to work as a freelance heli-ski guide before becoming an Internationally Certified Mountain Guide. By 1985, his fondness for the Durrand Glacier swayed him to build a backcountry ski lodge; he saw the eye-opening terrain as "the most perfect area for ski touring ever seen". The Selkirk Mountain Experience was born.

All of our Durrand Glacier back country ski trips are fronted by licensed Selkirk Mountain Experience guides - certified by the International Mountain Guide Association and/or the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides - who are very familiar with both the snowy environment and conditions. Please note that the landscape is challenging and requires you to be a very strong and skilled skier, equivalent to black diamond runs at internationally acclaimed ski areas.
